STRIPED BASS

OTHER NAMES: 

Striper or Rock Fish.

LOCATION: 

Largest stripers found in the surf at Assateague or Ocean City while fishermen are surf fishing the beaches. Inlets, channels, saltwater bays, bridges and other structure are a safe bet. Striped Bass provide some of the best sportfishing on the Eastern Shore. Many stripers are caught at the Ocean City Pier and throughout Chincoteague Bay.

FEATURES : 

Silver in over all color with stripes. Resembles the Large Mouth Bass in some ways, but has a smaller mouth per size ratio. SIZE: Can weigh 50 pounds or more, but most are 5-20. The world record is 78 pounds, 8 ounces. A very tasty fish for the dinner table and easy to clean.

FISHING : 
Strong and an exciting battle for any angler.
BAIT & TACKLE : 
Caught on fresh peeler crabs, jigs, plugs, and cut bait. Med. - heavy surf tackle or med. for inshore waters behind Ocean City or near Chincoteague.
